In the original Scream (1996), Ghostface wears a sparkly lurex fabric robe with square arm tatters and pointed frills on the bottom edges. During production, more Ghoulish masks were considered before finally settling on the peanut-eyed ghost mask.

Prior to the start of filming Scream (1996), production had been doing location scouting and spotted a "Peanut-Eyed Ghost" mask made by the company Fun World, often called "Gen 1" masks since they originate from the earliest molds.
