Dec 15, 2017 · Nast's defense of Chinese immigration didn't cut much ice with the public. Easy to be in favor of Chinese immigration to California (an other western states) when you live in NY. The immigrants that he actually lived with, the Irish, he hated with a passion. Nast was a man of strong prejudices, and no saint by any means.
