Turkeys now inhabit 223 of the 254 counties in Texas. You can see them roam at many Texas State Parks. One of the most substantial and oldest winter turkey roosts is at South Llano River State Park near Junction.

I hunt hamilton county, couple weeks ago driving by the cowhouse creek saw a flock of 20+ turkey. Sitting on my place I can hear em when I am in the stand but have never seen any in person on the place.

Mar 31, 2023 · Texas Turkey Season. Texas has wild turkey subspecies, Rio Grande and Eastern. The Rio Grande turkey lives in the state’s west and south, whereas the Eastern turkey lives in the east. Both subspecies provide exciting spring hunting from late March to late May.

The open seasons and bag limits for Eastern turkey shall be as follows. In Bowie, Cass, Fannin, Grayson, Jasper (other than the Angelina National Forest), Lamar, Marion, Nacogdoches, Newton, Polk, Red River, and Sabine counties, there is a spring season during which both Rio Grande and Eastern turkey may be lawfully hunted.
