Jun 29, 2017 · Call it a clevis clevis turnbuckle (or shackle shackle turnbuckle) and I think you'll just confuse the situation. And unlike the clevis or "U-shaped coupling having holes at each end", a shackle (and a turnbuckle ) is useless for compressive loads.

Fetters: similar, being an assembly including attached chains. cuffs: similar. Bail/Bale (US/UK): loop on the butt end of a pocket knife, for securing a cord then tied to user's belt to prevent loss of the knife.

May 13, 2019 · A screwpin shackle will work for all of the mentioned applications, so its easiest just to spec those and not worry about where you can use one and not the other. I could see a contractor micing things up and accidentally using the wrong hardware in the wrong place if both types are on site during an install.

Jan 14, 2015 · The bump near the splice is the mouse, and that looks more mouse-like to me! My guess is that the practice of calling it "mousing" a hook would be since the cordage used to create a mouse on a stay would have been the same or similar spunyarn stuff.

Feb 13, 2020 · Where a domestic shackle will sheer at the shank of the pin where the Chinese ones tend to pull out the threads, leading one to assume that the tolerances on the threading is not as tight as a domestic shackle. The key part is the rigging hardware you use should be marked with Country of Origin, Manufacturer name/logo/mark, and a working load limit

Feb 29, 2024 · A small shackle would fix that quickly and cheaply. My second issue is that the chain through bolts don't seem to be secured. Through bolting is no longer as popular as it was a couple of decades ago. More shackles could clean that up, but I might prefer replacing the chain so that both ends go through the new top shackle.
