Thrust fault - Wikipedia
Occasionally, the displacement on the individual horses is more significant, such that each horse lies more or less vertically above the other; this is known as an antiformal stack or imbricate stack. If the individual displacements are still greater, the horses have a foreland dip.
Imbricate structures form by the stacking of two or more thrust sheets (Fig. 1) and are common in fold-and-thrust belts worldwide (Dahlstrom, 1969, 1970; Price, 1981; Boyer and Elliot, 1982; Suppe, 1983; McClay and Price, 1981).
Thrust faults: Some common terminology - Geological …
Apr 16, 2021 · Duplex: An imbricate stack of horses bound above and below by through-going thrusts; these are the roof and floor thrusts. Duplexes represent progressive, incremental formation of ramps and bending folds (anticline-syncline pairs).
Differences in the Tectonic Evolution of Thrust Sheets in the Blue ...
The Blue Ridge thrust complex is composed of an imbricate stack of thrust sheets, each with a distinct tectonic and metamorphic history. In general, the predominant grade of metamorphism increases from the structurally lowest to structurally highest thrust sheet.
Imbricate thrust stack model for the formation of glaciotectonic …
Jul 20, 2009 · An imbricate thrust stack model of glaciotectonic raft generation is presented, with the structural history of raft emplacement explained by the geometric relationships between the large-scale basal shear planes and associated deformation structures within adjacent preglacial and glacial sediments.
Active thrusting of the Longquan Fault in the central Sichuan basin ...
Jun 21, 2017 · First, we propose a wide imbricate thrust system that comprises hinterland splay faults, deep fault ramps, and foreland surface-emergent thrusts that are linked by a shared detachment that collectively create a framework for complex earthquake behavior in the Longmen Shan fold-and-thrust belt.
Quaternary activity of the range front thrust system in the …
Oct 18, 2016 · The structure that is revealed consists of an imbricate stack that includes five major thrust faults, namely, the Wenchuan-Maowen, Yingxiu-Beichuan, Pengguan, and Guankou faults, and the RFBT. The Wenchuan-Maowen Fault dips steeply and crops out in the hinterland.
Imbricate structure - SpringerLink
An imbricate structure consists of a series of overlapping rock slices separated by steeply inclined subparallel reverse faults and bounded above and below by major low-angle thrust surfaces. The arrangement is somewhat similar to a set of books leaning against one another on an incompletely filled shelf.
FAULT DUPLEX STRUCTURE - 50Webs
A system of imbricate thrust faults that branch off from a floor thrust below and curve upward to join a roof thrust at a branch line is called a duplex. The fault-bound bodies of rock in the duplex are horses.
