on october 16th, 1834, Captain Whittaker set sail from Buffalo, NY, to Chicago aboard a schooner named Post Boy. Before Captain Whittaker took command, this ship served as one of the USPS mail ships, commonly known as "Post Boys," that traversed the Great Lakes.
