Aug 18, 2010 · A rib relay is nothing more than an electrically controlled switch. When voltage is applied ti its coil, a set of contacts closes. Same as any other relay. The main difference here is the rib relay has a 1/2" hub on it that can be installed in a 1/2" KO. Other relays have to be mounted with screws or a DIN rail.

May 4, 2024 · The RIB serving as a motor contactor should not be an issue as long as you stay under the contact rating for inductive loads. But the 2.4 amps at 120VAC for a 1/3hp motor does not sound right. Common motor data charts show 7.2 amps at 120VAC and 3.6 amps at 220VAC for 1/3 horsepower motor.

It looks like it is intended to be mounted on a knockout outside on the breaker panel. However the low voltage coil feed is bundled in with the high voltage tails, as well there is the 24DC incoming from a transformer.

Dec 31, 2024 · I recently updated the RIB relay and transformer. I did a manual reset and the gas flow to the grill continued. However, 3 days later and the owner has been having to manually reset the relay everyday to get the gas to flow. No alarm trigger or error, new RIB relay, new transformer. Could it simply be a bad relay ?

RIB makes suitable relays for this kind of thing, good quality, made in USA or Canada, you can pick one that will work with a doorbell transformer for control power.

I thought the thermostat has to manually open all power legs or you need a disconnect within sight. Or remote lockable.
