I have just been down in my basement room where I keep them. The University of Idaho recommends 6°C to 13°C (42°f to 55°f) for home storage of potatoes.

Apr 19, 2011 · I bought seed potatoes last month and for lack of anywhere else they went into the basement. Cool & dark but damp. I discovered today some have 3-4 inch long roots already! I am in zone 5. According to my planting calenders I should plant potatoes around the 9th or so of May. That is still another 2 weeks away. We had snow just last week.

Apr 29, 2009 · The sweet potatoes grow down. The reason for the hill is to make them a whole lot easier to dig. They will grow and produce if you don't start out with them on a hill, but they are a lot harder to dig. I inititally thought the spacing recommended on the extension sites was to crowd them a bit to get marketable sized sweet potatoes.

The vines and leaves on them produce the energy that goes into forming sweet potatos so the more they are cut back the smaller the harvest will be. I feed what I trim back to my rabbits so they do double duty, sweet potatos for my larder and trimmings for the rabbits.

Apr 30, 2010 · I grow in buckets, layer of hay at the bottom, the come compost with potatoes, then a layer of hay or mulch (usually wood mulch) then more compost. Then I layer to the top with compost and another layer of mulch to finish it off on top. I do this over time as the potatoes grow. End of season, I just dump the bucket and fish out the potatoes.
