They are just an indicator that something important lies here. Possibly you actually get to meet this creature later in the game. Nope, they're just here and there, sometimes you'll see them around a treasure, a drop, sometimes not, it's random. Will we eventually know more about them in the story? They are also in the opening cinematic.
