Jul 13, 2023 · Make-A-Wish aims to grant the wish of every eligible child. Due to limited resources and in order to bring the maximum benefit to the children who receive a wish, we do not grant wishes to adults, or to children under 3 years old.

Make-A-Wish grants wishes to individuals who meet two preliminary criteria: (1) children who have reached the age of 3 and are under the age of 18, and (2) who have been diagnosed with a critical illness, i.e., a progressive, degenerative, or malignant medical condition that has placed the child’s life in jeopardy.

Make-A-Wish traces its inspiration to Christopher James Greicius, an energetic 7-year-old boy battling leukemia who wishes to be a police officer. In 1980, his Phoenix community came together to make his wish come true.
