The two horses represented power and strength and, in union folklore, you always knew a Teamster was coming because he had Thunder and Lightning by his side. The teamster's love and respect for their horses was manifested in a strike by workers at the Seattle Transfer company in 1910.

Since 1910, the Teamster logo has consisted of two horses' heads, representing the complementary forces of strength inherent in the Teamster organization. A well-known emblem, most people recognize it but are unsure of the story behind it. The horses' names are Thunder and Lightning; Thunder is male and Lightning, female.
Thunder and Lightning made their debut. The 10 wagon wheel spokes represent the qualities of a true Teamster: loyalty, integrity, honor, compassion, courage, steadfast, trustworthy, fair, just and reliable. Teamsters also pledged to become more active in their communities.
Meet Thunder and Lightning! They are a team! They were partners with Teamsters who drove wagons and delivered all manner of people and things. Not just any horses you see, they had dignity and strength and a big job to do. Together they were powerful and made every job a success! And, they earned respect from all who knew them too!
