Houghton Regis Marl Lakes is a 20.1-hectare (50-acre) biological Site of Special Scientific Interest in Houghton Regis in Bedfordshire. It was notified under the Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981 in 1988.

Jul 11, 2014 · Houghton Quarry is an abandoned quarry, formerly used to extract chalk for a cement works onsite (which is no longer there). Quarrying stopped about 40 years ago, but, due to its size and terracing, only parts are overgrown, leaving an enormous amount of clean chalk.

Dec 4, 2014 · The field became the site for the massive quarry which, from 1926 to 1971, supplied chalk to the nearby cement works in Dunstable Road. This, too, has also vanished, replaced by modern industrial units.

Then after a break we went to Houghton Regis where the frost is beginning to break up some of the large boulders that have come down from the winter months. Here we found a good number of brachs including 2 nice large "lamp shells", a couple more coprolites and the usual small brachs, scales and plant debris.
